Our mission

Havsans is on a mission to provide easier access to hydrographic data.

Our hope is that hydrographic data can become available to new user groups and that existing user groups will be able to collect larger amounts of data.

To do this, we are working on not only reducing the cost of equipment but also designing the equipment to make deployment and recovery easier. Our specially designed buoy is small and light weight and can easily be deployed by 1-2 people without the use of a crane.

Low-cost, ready to deploy – complete solution with sensors, marker buoy and mooring. Un-matched price with no need for additional modifications.

Flexible – The mooring can be fitted with one or more sensor nodes placed at different depths below the surface. Each sensor node is equipped with sensors measuring temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen concentration.

Easy to deploy – The small size and light weight of both the buoy and the mooring make deployment simple and easy requiring only 1-2 people and a small boat.

The buoy

The core part of the monitoring system is a surface buoy that houses all the data collection electronics, telemetry, batteries and solar panels.

The buoy is designed so that it complies with IALA requirements to a special mark.

Weighing only 23 kg and with an overall length of 4.5 m, the Havsans buoy is relatively small and easy to deploy.

The mooring

The mooring consists of a reinforced data cable which provides data connection between the datalogger in the buoy and one or more sensor nodes attached to the mooring line. The sensor nodes can be placed at any depth up to 50 m and are fitted with sensors measuring temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen concentration.

The mooring line is typically anchored using a bottom rig weighing 15-30 kg.

Deployment and maintenance

Havsans can offer a complete solution in which Havsans handles all practicalities related to deployment, maintenance and recovery of equipment. In this case the user simply pays a monthly fee for data delivery. Alternatively, the user can handle deployment, maintenance and recovery and get data at a reduced monthly fee.

Real-time data

Data collected by the buoy is immediately transmitted via an NB-iot network. Thereby both the measured hydrographical data as well as buoy status (e.g. position and battery level) are made available in real-time. All data can be viewed online or downloaded via Havsans’ data portal or an API can be provided for automatic access to data.
